The Bigfoot movie genre is about to get a very intriguing new entry in Sasquatch Sunset, the latest from sibling filmmaking team David and Nathan Zellner (Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter). It delighted audiences at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and hits theaters nationwide this week.
io9 has an exclusive clip to share from the film, which stars Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg—not that you’ll be able to spot them, because they play Bigfoots and are therefore clad in head-to-toe furry costumes. In this clip, we see how the film’s characters react when they encounter a particularly aggressive turtle in their forest. It’s surreal, hilarious, earnest, and very weird, all at once:
Here’s the official synopsis: “In the misty forests of North America, a family of Sasquatches—possibly the last of their enigmatic kind—embark on an absurdist, epic, hilarious, and ultimately poignant journey over the course of one year. These shaggy and noble giants fight for survival as they find themselves on a collision course with the ever-changing world around them.”
Ari Aster (Midsommar, Hereditary, Beau Is Afraid) executive produced Sasquatch Sunset, which also stars Christophe Zajac-Denek and co-director Nathan Zellner. It’s already playing in select theaters, and opens wide April 19.
