Creamy Cucumber Salad Recipe | The Stay At Home Chef

Creamy Cucumber Salad is an easy-to-make side dish that’s guaranteed to be a hit at any gathering, whether it’s a backyard barbecue or cookout, a potluck, or just a regular weeknight dinner. We’ve opted to use sour cream to add the “creamy” to our version of this popular dish.

If you love cucumber salad but prefer the non-creamy vinaigrette version, we’ve got you covered with our other Easy Cucumber Salad Recipe.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Only 10 minutes of hands-on preparation required!
  • Refrigerates for an hour, or until ready to serve to free up your time to do other things.
  • Great for dinners, potlucks, and cookouts.

Cucumber Salad is heavily rooted in German cuisine with a dish known as Gurkensalat. It’s a popular side dish that has made its way to America. While this dish originated in Germany, it has made its way all over the world, including German immigrants in the United States. There are several variations within Germany, and even more in the United States. This creamy version is a popular choice due to its simple ingredients and easy preparation.

What kind of cucumber should I use?

English cucumbers have more flavor and less seeds and are perfect for making cucumber salad. If you don’t have access to English cucumbers, you can use regular seedless cucumbers. Since they are smaller, you will need to double the amount that you use. We do not recommend using cucumbers with seeds in this recipe.

To Peel or Not to Peel

There is nothing harmful about the skin of a cucumber. In fact, it can be a great source of fiber and nutrients. If you don’t like cucumber skin, you can always take the time and effort to peel it. But for those who love it, just give your cucumber a quick rinse and get to slicing!

Fresh vs. Dried Dill:

Fresh dill is strongly preferred in this recipe as it has a better flavor. If you can’t find fresh dill or don’t have access, you can use dried dill, but you’ll need to use it in smaller amounts. 2-3 teaspoons of dried dill is all you’ll need.

Storage Instructions
